I am a poet, essayist, and writing coach. I inspire writers with thoughtful prompts, nourishing feedback, manuscript-mapping tools, and one-on-one coaching as they plan, create, and revise amazing work. I also share a newsletter, field notes, offering contemplation + inspiration for poets and other creatives.

My writing explores a wide range of topics from the technologies that haunt our past to the habits that shape our present. My poems and essays have appeared in Spoon River Poetry Review, TriQuarterly, Pembroke Magazine, Tar River Poetry, The Cincinnati Review, and other journals. I am the author of Acoustic Shadows and three poetry chapbooks: Automotive, Excursions, and fields drawn from subtle arrows (Co-winner of the 2022 Midwest Chapbook Contest).

I hold two degrees in Creative Writing: an MFA from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and a PhD from the University of Utah, where I received the Clarence Snow Fellowship and the Levis Prize in Poetry. I’ve worked on a number of literary journals (including Ninth Letter, Quarterly West, and Western Humanities Review) and sometimes teach virtual classes at The Muse.

I offer one-on-coaching for poets of all stripes. The only thing I enjoy as much as sitting down to write is sitting down to coach a writer as they hone their craft and prepare to share their remarkable work with the world. My clients are some of the most thoughtful and dedicated writers I’ve ever met; they understand the transformative power of creative work and they know writing is a process, not just a product. Some of my clients are well-published and others are seeking their first publication, but they are all committed to deepening their works-in-progress. It’s an honor to work with each and every one of them.
